My Review on Amazon:

Underneath is the first novel that I have read from this author and I found it an interesting read.

Underneath is a story that grabs your attention although it left me with the question "Where was this story headed?" Intrigued, I kept reading.

The story developed with an in depth looks into the thoughts of Hugh, the man behind the erratic actions. He is the person who has the ability to charm with his looks and personality or to use and abuse those who he comes in contact with. Much of his actions are based off a person appearance, his reaction to them and their reaction to him. His mood swings are ignited by even the smallest of annoyances.

The story moves at a consistent speed, not slow and not fast, all the while developing the supporting characters as well. The worried mother, the two police officers, the teenagers looking about for a thrill, and the girls involved are all represented well by the author.

The manner in which the author brings the story to a conclusion demonstrates that the author put much effort and thought into this plot.

After finishing this book, I had to sit for a while and think about how I really felt about the story presented. It does take you to another level of thinking and wondering...What does the person you are in contact with at this moment really think underneath the exterior?

Book Review: Someone Has to Pay by Joe McCoubrey

This is the second book published by Author Joe McCoubrey and the first one that I have read. I am looking forward to seeing more by this author.

Amazon Review:

This is the first book I have read by this author and I wasn't disappointed. There were many characters to keep up with but thankfully the author kept the protagonist and antagonist consistent and the supporting characters were easy to follow.

The pace is fast and as stated in the title of this review, was non stop. The dialogue was good and easy to understand. I like the fact that this is a British book as I am American and have never visited the area; the setting opened my imagination up to the settings the author created.

There were some instances I had to stretch my imagination to think if a certain situation was believable or not and that is why I rated it a four star instead of a five star. Yes, I know this is a work of fiction but I still like for scenes to be conceivable - this was in relation to the interrogation of the prisoners.

HOWEVER, this is just the personal perspective of the reader and this book is well worth your time in reading and at the low price it is advertised, purchasing it is clearly worth it! I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Book Review: Cowboy by Staci Stallings

Staci Stallings is acclaimed to be a best selling author with 23 books under her belt since 2005. I have read two of her books with the latest one being Cowboy.

As you can see above she has two different covers. The one with the road on it is for the paperback version and the other one is for the kindle version. Is this such a good idea? What do you think?

I was drawn to the kindle version cover for her story. Unfortunately, although the author had good punctuation, and the story flowed decently, I was disappointed in this story. If you are looking for a love story without expectations this one will do you just fine.

Here is the review I posted on Amazon:

I was drawn to this book by its cover; however, the male lead was only a cowboy in image. His looks were described with the flamboyant style of a show cowboy not the real ones I have known. This was a disappointment.

I was also disappointed with the story line because as the story moved forward I kept thinking about how it mirrored Pure Country. I noticed too many similarities between this story and the story Pure County.

This is the second book I read by this author and although there is an underlying theme of Christianity in her books, I feel this aspect is generally broad in its descriptiveness of God and how He helps people heal and trust in difficult situations.

It is obvious the author has a talent to write; I am hoping that her other books have more of an original theme and goes deeper into the heart of God than the two I have read from her.

Author K Meador Spotlighted...

About the Author:

Born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in Texas since age four, K-Trina Meador is the youngest of five children. Growing up in Cross Plains, Texas, and being raised on a seventy-acre farm gave her an appreciation for country life and the small town community. She has two sons who are actively pursuing their busy lives as adults.

She currently works full time as an aircraft mechanic/avionics technician. She also writes for The Examiner - Austin Texas, is a Top Rated Reviewer in both the US and the UK for book reviews on Amazon and is active on several social networking sites.

Becoming a successful author is a dream that she has held close to her heart for many years. Taking her first novel, Journey to Freedom, from computer to ink has been that long road of struggle that many authors are familiar with. Now that the novel is in print, she is humbled by the many responses from those who have already read and reviewed Journey to Freedom, as well as, Their Journey Begins and Transcendence.

In November 2012, K Meador released her second book which is a prequel anthology to Journey to Freedom titled Their Journey Begins. The fans that read Journey to Freedom asked the author to write about their stories before they all met and thus came the book Their Journey Begins.

In December 2012, K Meador released her third book which is a collection of poetry written over the years from her personal perspective and covers topics such as depression, alcoholism, death love, hope and courage.

Author K Meador is also a top rated Amazon reviewer in both the UK and the US, writes a book article column for The Examiner and is an active blogger.

In work is K Meador's second full length novel titled The Inner Chamber which will is due out in June 2013.

About Journey to Freedom:

An unlikely meeting...
Marrissa is running away, as fast as her feet can carry her. After enduring the abuse at the hands of her employer for years, she has finally found the strength to strike out on her own, and now she has been unceremoniously thrust into an adventure with a man she doesn't know. But things become more serious when she and her companion are taken in by the Cherokee. After enduring attempts on her life at the hands of a jealous wife, Marrissa must once again leave people behind and make her own way. But this time she might be leaving true love behind.

An undying devotion...
Greggory longs to be a free man. Facing the violent prejudices against him as a half breed, and running from the high price set on his head by the owner of the plantation he used to belong to, he never expected to find peace and happiness with the young woman at his side. But the more time he spends with Marrissa, the more he realizes she is the one for him, and when evidence points to her untimely demise, he vows to gain his freedom and love no one else. But fate might not be done with him yet, and Greggory may have a second chance at the life he first glimpsed in Marrissa's eyes.

A timeless love...
Set amid the tumultuous backdrop of the American Civil War, Journey to Freedom, chronicles the harrowing misadventures of two star-crossed lovers through nineteenth century America, battling violence, prejudice, and the inherent struggles of their time. Join author K-Trina Meador for a touching saga of love, faith, and survival.

What readers are saying:

~ The Journey to Freedom made me feel as if I were right in the era of racism and prejudice with Marissa and Greggory.

~ The struggles the characters must go through to reach where they need to be in life is quite extraordinary.

~ K Meador's Journey to Freedom is an epic tale, of love and tragedy, of want and devastation, of passion and bigotry, set in a time of shame for those with hearts unable to encompass compassion for all.

About Their Journey Begins:

A prequel featuring individual short story vignettes of Greggory, Robert, Marissa, and Daniel before their lives converge in Journey to Freedom.

Greggory is a half-breed; a mix of Indian and black blood, and struggles both emotionally and
physically with hatred and prejudice.

Robert is a slave on a Florida plantation who takes in the starving, angry young Greggory, under his wing and helps him grow into a man of honor.

Marrissa is a young girl who watches her mother waste away working as a maid in the saloon. Dodging the advances of the owner and his threats to put her in service, Marrissa dreams of having a better life and strikes out on her own after her mother's death.

Daniel is an introvert who finds safe haven away from civilization and his past. His business of trapping is successful and he finds contentment in the simple life he leads until he has two visitors.

There are no spoilers in this book so it can be read before or after Journey to Freedom.

What readers are saying:

~ Each short story is written in the voice of a character, and takes the reader through a vat of varying emotions.

~ The Journey Begins is a beginning, and an end, an interconnecting of lives interrupted, ripped away, by a society of oppression, a dark period in American history, when slaves were considered possessions.

~ Although their backgrounds are very different, there is an underlying theme in their individual struggles for survival and freedom.

About Transcendence:
Transcendence is a collection of poetry for the soul written from the author's perspective spanning the time period between 1998 and 2012. The poems cover topics such as depression, death, alcoholism, spirituality, hope, and love.

What readers are saying:

~ This is a beautiful and touching collection of poetry.

~ K. Meador writes beautiful poetry straight from the heart.

~ Her poems inspire and help the reader understand about life, loss, love, and spirituality a little more than they did when they started reading.

What is next for author K Meador:

Expected publishing date: June 2013

The silence in the room was only disturbed by the beeping of the machine indicating that the woman was still alive. Barely; by all accounts she should be dead. The multitude of unseen warriors listened to the beeps interrupting the silence as they dwelled on what had just been said.

Twenty of them moved around the hospital bed standing shoulder to shoulder with no gap between them as they stared at the injured and unmoving woman. Every other one lifted their arms, expanding their wings and covered the angel on either side of them forming a solid white wall with no gaps able to be seen. The hedge of protection around her was strong and complete.

The angels heard their enemy approach boldly into the room making no qualms as to their intentions. They were arrogant and fierce, breathing lies, hate, manipulation, deception and fire. Their tongues forked out as a sharpened sword and they attacked the angels standing ten deep around the bed.

Swords glistened in the fluorescent hospital light as the battle continued…only on different turf this time. The clang of the swords, cries of the injured and despairs of death created a cacophony of sounds that went unheard by the patients in the room next to her, and to the staff who carried on about their duties as scheduled.

Tongues slithering, swords slicing, and armor being penetrated, one demon in a fit of boldness charged forward into the mass and made it to the inner row of angels who had created the hedge of protection. Before the demon was cut down in death, he drew his sword high in the air slamming it downward cutting off an angel’s wing creating a gap in the hedge.

And it was in that gap that allowed the nurse to do what she had doubted that she could do as she left the nurses’ station and briskly walked down the hallway. Entering the room almost at a run she paused at the doorway catching her breath as a bead of sweat broke out on her forehead.

An angel moved to replace the injured one but it was too late. The hedge had been broken. The enemy moved in.

At the edge of the bed the enemy stood looking at the coma induced woman and with her heart beating fast with adrenaline, a bead of sweat started on her forehead, slowly rolling down her face as she pulled the syringe out, and sucked it full of air.

It was in that moment that the battle paused. Both the angels and demons turned, eyes wide - watching, heads turned - listening…beep, beep, beep, beep.

The nurse picked up the woman’s arm and held it in position, and lowered the needle. beep, beep, beep…….

About Ripper, My Love:

Growing up in late nineteenth century East London, Kitty Harper’s life is filled with danger and death – from her mother, her beloved neighbor and the working women of the streets.
With her ever-watchful father and living surrogate family though, Kitty feels protected from harm. In fact, she feels so safe that while Whitechapel cowers under the cloud of a fearsome murderer, she strikes out on her own, moving into new premises to accommodate her sewing business.
But danger is closer than she thinks. In truth, it has burrowed itself right into her heart in the form of a handsome yet troubled bachelor, threatening everything she holds dear. Will Kitty fall prey to lust – and death – herself, or can she find the strength inside to fight for her business, sanity and her future?
And who is the man terrifying the streets of East London?

What readers are saying:

The world was believable. Some moments left me holding my breath. Some moments left me teary (especially toward the end), and for a person who doesn't often read this genre, it was a smooth and enjoyable hit of "history".
~ I was totally drawn into the world of this book.
~ I felt like I was transported back to Old England to the impoverished section of Whitechapel. The imagery is so strong that you will feel as if you are walking through the dirty streets of London.

One Good Redneck Mama

One Good Redneck Mama - A humorous look at stupid dogs, duct tape, and psycho drama queens in the heart of Texas. Cheryl takes the reader deep into the Texas Big Country to explore the wild side of raising kids, wrangling rattle snakes and finding the happy in everyday life.

"Fair warning to my friends and neighbors: You know I have never been the Prim & Proper Southern Lady. I'm more of a Practical Country Girl. And by "practical" I mean cuss like a sailor when the situation calls for it but never use God's name to cuss and generally refrain from dropping the f-bomb. That bomb is dropped once in this book but it wasn't me who said it; it was the dog."

Bobby’s Dove by author Matthew Hamilton and illustrator Cheryl Ramirez

Bobby’s Dove is a poem that is transferred to book form and is easily read to children or for children who are just learning to read. The book fits into any family library, public library or church library.

Bobby’s Dove teaches children, in a warm and fun way, that God loves them. The pictures are warm and descriptive. Younger age children love to find the cat and the puppy which appears in most of the pictures. The rhythm of the poem is fun to read out loud.

The hero of the story, Bobby looks a tad different in some of the pictures as this is the illustrator’s first book but this one aspect does not distract from the story or the message and young readers will be too busy looking for the cat or puppy to notice!

The author, Matt Hamilton lives in Ft. Worth, Texas and is married with children. This is his first book dedicated lovingly to his children.

The Illustrator, Cheryl Ramirez, lives in Cisco, Texas and is married with children.

Hollywood Shakedown:

There, he meets Mortimer Saxon, a, reclusive obsessive manuscript collector with an edge. A sharp suited zealot searching for Buddy's father's fabled Lost Manuscript; a one off, a unique piece worth thousands and thousands of dollars, an American literary icon of the same cult magnitude as Hunter Thompson's "Call to the Post." He asks Buddy whether he can help. Buddy hasn't a clue. Not a scooby. Trouble is, Mortimer doesn't believe him. Over the finest steak dinner Buddy has ever eaten, the collector makes him a proposition. Find the manuscript and make one hundred thousand dollars. Fail to find the manuscript and lose body parts on instruments restored from Inquisition times. Worse, he's given two weeks and no choice. All the time he's worried about his independent minded squeeze Monique, who, like a very independent minded cat, only ever comes home when she wants feeding. Hoping against hope that the manuscript exists. Avoiding snipers, hitmen, hooligans, the attentions of strange seventies goons and an alluring, hyper-sexy bad girl gangster with an interest in low-life big guy writers. Finding themselves developing respect and admiration in an age of endangered male friendships, the odd couple face a race against time to find the manuscript, a contest which leads to a pulse pounding climax, one in which Buddy has to face his deepest, darkest fears.

Hollywood Shakedown is an offbeat thriller and quest novel, written in a Transatlantic beat style. The narrative transpires mostly in dialogue. It contains one of the hottest women you'll ever witness without a camera and three of the nastiest villains you'll see outside State prison. Hollywood Shakedown is one of the sleepers of the year.

Ractus the Armadillo was probably my favorite, maybe because he could be a little grumpy and high-strung, but in a lovable way. (Amazon Review)
From the mountains to the swamps, wizards and minimorphosises, gems and flying rafts, the flow and energy of this story is humorous, consistent and charming. (Amazon Review)
Both books in her series are available in either paperback or e-book format.

The Briton and The Dane: Collection
The Briton and the Dane novels bring to life the tumultuous ninth century when the formidable Vikings terrorized the civilized world. The epic adventure runs the gamut of deception, treachery, intrigue and betrayal during a time of war and conquest in Anglo-Saxon Britain.
The Briton and The Dane:
After the last of Rome's legions left Britannia to the mercy of the invading barbarian hordes and before the age of chivalry, when knighthood was in flower and troubadours sang of courtly love, there lived a King whose love for his people and the land left a legacy coveted by his descendants who sought to wear his crown. Travel back in time to the late Ninth Century, to the tumultuous days in the reign of Alfred the Great who successfully defeated the Danish Viking King Guthrum and kept his precious Wessex free from Viking rule. Journey to the Burh of Wareham where Lord Richard oversees the training of Alfred's army; where his children, Stephen, David and Gwyneth, swear fealty to their King and support his vision to build a nation to rival the glory that once was Rome in a land ravaged by war and conquest.
The Briton and The Dane: Birthright
It was a time before chivalry, before knighthood, before the birth of the great Bard.It was long after the Legions of glorious Rome left Britannia to the Barbarian hordes and Hadrian's Wall no longer divided the island that a great King sought to unite the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms of England. Travel back in time to Ninth Century Anglo-Saxon Britain and the reign of Alfred the Great who successfully repelled the Viking threat and drove the formidable Danish King Guthrum out of his Kingdom of Wessex. Journey throughout Britannia where Lord Richard and his children risk their lives in the service of their King; where treachery and treason threaten the uneasy peace; where the outcome of one battle determines the course of history.
The Briton and The Dane: Legacy
It was a time before England's Golden Age; before Chaucer's poetic tales; before the revered Lionheart took the Crusader Cross; before the legend of Robin Hood. It was after the invading Germanic tribes settled the land and petty chieftains vied for supreme sovereignty that a great King sought to unify the British nation. Travel back in time to Dark Age Britannia and the turbulent reign of Alfred the Great who successfully prevented the Great Heathen Army from conquering his beloved Kingdom of Wessex. Journey throughout a war-ravaged country where Lord Richard and his offspring swear allegiance to a visionary King; where a cultural renaissance not seen since the rule of Charlemagne defies the savagery of barbarian raids; where a decisive sea battle establishes naval supremacy.

About the Author:
Neo-gothic Welsh wordsmith Emma Edwards has written since childhood. She worked in Business Administration, married and nurtured her beloved kids, but it was only when they started to get older that she had the time to create, write and publish her first novel Sanguinary and more recently the follow up, Imbrued.
At thirteen, Emma watched The Lost Boys and ever since, she's had a thing about vampires, so it was inevitable that they would be the focus of her debut novel. She doesn't just write paranormal though; there are projects on the way that are grounded in reality like concrete.
Emma's writing style is sassy, sharp, dynamic, uncompromising and tends to the dark side. Let's just say it's never going to be rainbows and fluffy bunnies with Emma. Okay, there is one fluffy bunny in Imbrued, but he doesn't last long!
Would you bleed for the one you love? Angel Harris has always had a thing about vampires, but not so much the killer that is claiming victims in the city where she lives and works. The press are calling him ‘The Vampire’, because the victims are found drained of blood, with bite marks to their necks. Ash is the lead singer in a local rock band. Angel is drawn into his world when she is asked by her boss at the local newspaper to investigate rumors of blood drinking within Ash’s band. Ash and Angel bond on a deep level and she finds herself welcomed into this group of supposed blood drinkers. But the body count continues to rise and Angel will soon find out that ‘The Vampire’ is closer to her than she ever would have believed. Sex, blood and rock n roll.
Sanguinary Series Book 2
