Book Review of Underneath by Author Michael Cargill

4 out of 5 stars

Underneath is the first novel that I have read from this author and I found it an interesting read.

Underneath is a story that grabs your attention although it left me with the question "Where was this story headed?" Intrigued, I kept reading.

The story developed with an in depth look into the thoughts of Hugh, the man behind the erratic actions. He is the person who has the ability to charm with his looks and personality or to use and abuse those who he comes in contact with. Much of his actions are based off a person appearance, his reaction to them and their reaction to him. His mood swings are ignited by even the smallest of annoyances.

The story moves at a consistent speed, not slow and not fast, all the while developing the supporting characters as well. The worried mother, the two police officers, the teenagers looking about for a thrill, and the girls involved are all represented well by the author.

The manner in which the author brings the story to a conclusion demonstrates that the author put much effort and thought into this plot.

After finishing this book, I had to sit for a while and think about how I really felt about the story presented. It does take you to another level of thinking and wondering...What does the person you are in contact with at this moment really think underneath the exterior?
