Block Balance Plan

I know I am not the only one who struggles with balance in their lives so the question is how do you keep balanced?
  • Things that keep you off balance:
    • Parenting, spouses, dating, finances, individual time, friend time, work time, writing time, marketing time, family time, relaxation time, housework time, sleep time, exercise time, hobby time, intimate time…how does it all work when  you are only one person?
  • Things to keep you on balance:
    • Setting Priorities, Setting Goals, Letting Go, Organization, Communication
Balancing requires knowledge of highest to lowest priorities. What or where or who do you spend most of your time? What is sacrificed? What do you want to be better? What are you willing to do to make it better? Anyone can take the easy road and quit or give in – Do you have what it takes to take the harder road and instead of grumbling find a creative solution? Take a moment to define your priorities.

Now that you have defined from highest to lowest priorities, what are you going to do to keep from being unbalanced again?

With this question in mind, I have created, in my own life, what I call the Block Balance Plan. Each hour of my day is scheduled as colleges schedule their classes. I schedule novel writing time, blog writing time, editing time, marketing time, family time, friend time, personal time, exercise time and more in blocked out hours. For example, sleep is blocked out for eight hours each day; novel writing for 3 hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday;  Marketing research for three hours on Tuesday and Thursdays; regular work week blocked out in 10 hours; and so on.

On this Block Balance Calendar I have also placed goals to achieve in finances, marketing, editing and writing. I borrowed the following quote from Joyce Meyer: People who set goals without target completion dates rarely accomplish their objectives.

Too many people, I have found, have used the activities in their lives to keep them from pursuing their dreams. Note that sometimes it may take one person longer to fulfill their dreams than others – this does not mean they are inadequate, slow or an underachiever. It just means that they need extra time to make everything come together.

I went back to college when I was thirty five years old, whereas many people I know went to college straight out of high school. I published my first book at forty, whereas others publish in their twenties. Who has the better accomplishment? Neither – in both cases, both are equal accomplishments that required hard work, discipline and endurance.

Where are you at in pursuing the dream you have? What excuses do you make for not getting something accomplished?  I want for you ultimate success that I know God wants you to have. God is a God of order and balance and not chaos, so I urge you to think about implementing your own Block Balance Plan to bring your life from chaos to balance.

The New Living Translation Isaiah 45:18
For the LORD is God, and he created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos. “I am the LORD,” he says, “and there is no other.

History in the Making

As aviation history is being made in Charleston, South Carolina, with the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner being delivered to the customer in April 2012, I realize that this aircraft and I share a special month indeed. For it is in my personal life that history is being made as well with my first novel, Journey to Freedom, being published. And it is in my spiritual life that I welcome the imprints of the responses of others upon my heart and soul and find humbleness that is overwhelming and at the same time...honoring.

Writing is a passion that I am unable to spend as much time as I would like doing. Marketing….well that is another story….a long, confusing, menacing story…which has led me to believe that writing is much easier than marketing. Sometimes, this world is a very small world and in light of one book in the mass of billions….it is such a large world.

And it reminds me that we, as Christians, are one in a billion but we really are ONE in a billion. Have you stopped to think about your life and how you affect those that are in your little circle of the globe? How a word, a text, a phone call, a post ~ can make all the difference in the world? With one voice among the billions of people you have the power to change the world.

Stop. Think. About. That.

With one voice, among the billions, you have the power to change the world.

Does this humble you with the humbleness of Christ? Does it empower you with the power given by Jesus? Does it refresh your soul when you are weary? Heal you when you are sick? Comfort you when you are heartbroken?

History was made when Jesus was crucified. This event is talked about by even those who do not believe in Him. History is being made today as you go to school, go to work and as you play. You are leaving your imprint on this world whether you realize it or not, in a small or in a big way, in a good or bad way.

Do you think that my English Teacher from high school would ever think that one of his students would be a published writer? I doubt it – He shared his knowledge, encouragement and love daily as a trademark of how Jesus would want him to live and he affected the world. As followers of Christ that is what we are called to do….and then (I just love those two words) And Then… Jesus steps in and moves that little action that you did and moves it to the forefront of heaven….saying that’s my boy! Or that’s my girl! (I just picture Him beaming as a proud parent) And in the right time, in His time, history is made.

It is easy, in this life, to get down on ourselves, to think that we don’t measure up, to think that the life you live is boring, to think that the seconds that pass don’t have an importance….but you would be believing lies. Each moment that you breathe you are intricately wound in the life of Christ. And you know what breaks my heart and His? – those very important people who put themselves down because they haven’t cherished the importance of their existence.

I want to encourage you in this blog today….to make history in your life today. Send someone a text, a post, a phone call, a letter; encourage someone today, visit someone in jail, volunteer at a local shelter, hug a teenager, be a volunteer for an Emmaus Walk, take care of the elderly. This is not a new concept but it might be….for the person receiving it.

Go in love – in Christ’s love – and make history on someone’s heart today. You just never know how long that seed will grow before it comes to a full circle.

What is unseen is far more important that what is seen.
The New Living Translation Ephesians 6:12
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
